Which crop packaging is is right for me?
We know crop packaging and twine is a huge investment, so we’re here to ensure the choices you make are informed, and right for you.
Founded in 1967, StowAg's supplier Cotesi has become one of the largest producers of baler twine in the UK. We’re pleased to have established a strong partnership with this industry leader, and are always working to improve our range and offering of crop packaging. As part of this, we have collaborated to produce a guide, enabling ease of product selection for you at this crucial time of year.
What weight do I need?
This depends on two factors; the baler you are using and the amount of crop you will be harvesting. Therefore, your chosen twine depends on the knot strength and the force of the baler tying it. Knot strength can vary from around 110 kgf (kilogram force) to 500 kgf.
Our range from Cotesi
HIGH DENSITY BALES
Big Bale+ - Twinpack. 7200ft per pack. Knot strength 300 kgf
Big Bale+ XL – 4400ft single spool. Approximately 300mm diameter x 355mm high.
HAY, GRASS AND LOW-DENSITY BALES
Cotesi 72+ - Twin pack. 7200ft per pack. Knot strength 230 kgf
Cotesi 72+ XL – Single Spool. Approximately 305mm diameter x 340mm high.
SMALL SQUARE BALES
Cotesi Hay - Twin pack. 10000ft per pack. Developed for faster conventional balers. Idea for hay baling. Knot Strength 75 kgf.
Cotesi Medium - Twin pack. 12000ft per pack. This is a soft twine ideal for hay baling. Knot Strength 65 kgf.
Benefits of using Cotesi twine:
- Technology using the newest grades of Copolymers and Additives.
- Thermal and UV Protection.
- Increased Strength, with the higher Knot Strength experienced in the market.
- Unique for its “Net Construction” providing the best fibrillation and softness, the best grip on knots, 20% stronger than any other twine with similar weight per meter.
Here’s a useful chart compiling each product and its application:
NUMBER OF KNOTTERS | HAY, GRASS & LOW DENSITY BALES | HIGH DENSITY BALES & STRAW | ULTRA HIGH DENSITY BALES & STRAW |
4 | Cotesi 72+ or Big Bale+ | Big Bale+ or Big Bale XL
6 | Cotesi 72+ | Big Bale+ or Big Bale XL
8 | Cotesi 72+ | Big Bale+ or Big Bale XL | Big Bale+ |
Don’t like using twine? It’s a matter of personal preference, however some advantages include faster baling and lower baling losses.
Try our Cotesi Netwrap - Maxicover.
For over 30 years Cotesi have been developing their netwrap products. Over time, new materials, additives and machinery were developed to meet the constant challenge of the new balers and customer expectations. Netwrap is a combination of knitted threads in two directions, longitudinal (the warp) and transverse (the weft). The performance of these netwraps is the result of how the threads behave. Maxicover has a very traditional structure with clear longitude lines and traverse threads forming triangles and therefore stronger threads. Try it on your round bales today.
Need some stretch film with that? Try our 7 layer Cotesi Film - Balpaq
Stretch film is one of the most commonly used products in the agriculture industry. It is crucial to make sure your stretch film has high stretch capacity and puncture resistance to ensure you make the most of your crop.
Benefits of Balpaq
- 25 micron strength Blown Film technology allows a much better performance in both longitudinal and transverse direction, very important to reduce tears
- The 7 layers provide an extra protection and an improved puncture resistance - reducing your chances of losing your crop
- Minimum losses of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Oxygen penetration and UV Stabilized for 1 year - to increase freshness
- Maximum Adhesive Additives to guarantee air and water resistance between layers, so that silage fermentation can be excellent - this also reduces mold growth
