When constructing a strong and durable metal fencing system, having the correct support in place is essential. A box strut provides crucial reinforcement to your strainer posts, ensuring the integrity of the fence and helping it withstand tension from the attached wires. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of installing a metal fence box strut, making it easy for fencing contractors to achieve a professional and secure installation.

What is a Box Strut?

A box strut is a diagonal support structure used in conjunction with a strainer post and a box support post. This setup stabilises the end or corner of a fence line, preventing movement under tension. Box struts are commonly used in metal fencing to maintain strength and longevity, especially when installing stock fencing, security fencing, or boundary enclosures.

How to install Fetra’s box strut

  1. Drive in the strainer post, insert the strut and mark the position of the box support post.
  2. Drive the box support post in until the top is just above the strainer, then insert the strut and fi nish driving until the strut is parallel to the ground.
  3. Insert a bolt at the base of the strainer post then install and tension the wire restraint.
  4. Next install the intermediate posts, and the stock net and line wires can then be attached and tensioned as required.

James Corbett installs Fetra metal fencing

Expert fencing contractor, James Corbett, expertly set up and completed a box strut metal fencing installation in Long Compton, Gloucestershire. This project was completed for MDH Forestry Services and it included deer netting with rabbit netting and two gates, as well as line wires to support potted trees. James shared:

“It was a really interesting project to be involved with and I’m looking forward to the second phase.

Fetra is a new product and well worth a look with a 40-year warranty.

It fits Tornado products, so two great products working together making a long lasting and strong fence.”

Before the project began, our dedicated fencing experts supported James to know the solutions available for the installation and the benefits of using metal fencing.
